SPARTACUS!
Apr. 3rd, 2012 05:53 pmIn case I haven't mentioned it before I am an avid Spartacus watcher. I loved Spartacus/Varro in the first season, I adored Gannicus in the second season, and I was completely into Agron/Nasir in the third season. (They're a surprise fandom for me. After "This Means War" failed to grow into the major fandom I was hoping it would, the surge of Agron/Nasir came out of nowhere and managed to quench my fanfic thirst to an extent I haven't enjoyed in years). Now that I've seen the final episode of the third season I have oh so many reactions.
What a rush! All those characters I wanted dead so badly have finally met their ends, and in awesome ways, too!
Ashur decapitated by Naevia!
Illythia bleeding out after Lucretia's crazed C-section (she better stay dead, I don't want her to pull a Lucretia and survive)!
Glaber swallowing Spartacus' sword! (heh heh)
Crixus, well, he didn't die, but his treatment of Naevia in this episode made him marginally more palatable, so I can tolerate his existence for a while yet.
And Gannicus had some resolution! His scenes with Oenomaus were quite touching. Although, is it just me, or did Oenomaus promise Gannicus a threesome with himself and Melitta in the afterlife? Because hee, that's awesome. On the other hand it's not like Gannicus needs any more incentive to die - the dude's been borderline suicidal from the very beginning. I mean, fighting blindfolded, what the hell was that? Or balancing precauriously at the edge of the precipice while drunk out of his mind. Or in this very episode his utter glee when he was facing the Roman troops with just three others on his side. (Why, yes, I have been scouring YouTube for clips from the second season to refresh my memory and tide me over until my blu-rays arrive. BTW, why on Earth the third season is not going to be released until October?! It's six months from now!)
What I also loved about the finale was how during Spartacus' crowning speech Gannicus is the only one sane enough to have that Shit, I'm with crazy, reaction shot. And then he presumably went What the hell do I worry about? I have that threesome waiting. Bring it on, Rome! "SPARTACUS!"
I think that's why I like him so much, he's actually quite clever, unlike most of the other gladiators who, let's face it, are not the sharpest bunch. Spartacus is a great tactitian, Ashur was a master manipulator, Oenomaus could use his brain when needed, but the rest are all brawn. So the fact Gannicus thinks about what he's doing is damn appealing. That and his sweet sweet moves - I love that he uses boxing, wrestling, even some parkour (mmm, that wall run there at 01:51, hot!), all in addition to the fact he's a demon with blades. And in the finale he's also turned out to be a ninja and an ancient ballistic missile expert (admittedly alongside Spartacus, Agron, and Crixus)! :-)
Here's an awesome tribute video I just can't stop watching:
Now, someone slash him!
