SPARTACUS!

In case I haven't mentioned it before I am an avid Spartacus watcher. I loved Spartacus/Varro in the first season, I adored Gannicus in the second season, and I was completely into Agron/Nasir in the third season. (They're a surprise fandom for me. After "This Means War" failed to grow into the major fandom I was hoping it would, the surge of Agron/Nasir came out of nowhere and managed to quench my fanfic thirst to an extent I haven't enjoyed in years). Now that I've seen the final episode of the third season I have oh so many reactions.

What a rush! All those characters I wanted dead so badly have finally met their ends, and in awesome ways, too!

Ashur decapitated by Naevia!

Illythia bleeding out after Lucretia's crazed C-section (she better stay dead, I don't want her to pull a Lucretia and survive)!

Glaber swallowing Spartacus' sword! (heh heh)

Crixus, well, he didn't die, but his treatment of Naevia in this episode made him marginally more palatable, so I can tolerate his existence for a while yet.

And Gannicus had some resolution! His scenes with Oenomaus were quite touching. Although, is it just me, or did Oenomaus promise Gannicus a threesome with himself and Melitta in the afterlife? Because hee, that's awesome. On the other hand it's not like Gannicus needs any more incentive to die - the dude's been borderline suicidal from the very beginning. I mean, fighting blindfolded, what the hell was that? Or balancing precauriously at the edge of the precipice while drunk out of his mind. Or in this very episode his utter glee when he was facing the Roman troops with just three others on his side. (Why, yes, I have been scouring YouTube for clips from the second season to refresh my memory and tide me over until my blu-rays arrive. BTW, why on Earth the third season is not going to be released until October?! It's six months from now!)

What I also loved about the finale was how during Spartacus' crowning speech Gannicus is the only one sane enough to have that Shit, I'm with crazy, reaction shot. And then he presumably went What the hell do I worry about? I have that threesome waiting. Bring it on, Rome! "SPARTACUS!"

I think that's why I like him so much, he's actually quite clever, unlike most of the other gladiators who, let's face it, are not the sharpest bunch. Spartacus is a great tactitian, Ashur was a master manipulator, Oenomaus could use his brain when needed, but the rest are all brawn. So the fact Gannicus thinks about what he's doing is damn appealing. That and his sweet sweet moves - I love that he uses boxing, wrestling, even some parkour (mmm, that wall run there at 01:51, hot!), all in addition to the fact he's a demon with blades. And in the finale he's also turned out to be a ninja and an ancient ballistic missile expert (admittedly alongside Spartacus, Agron, and Crixus)! :-)

Here's an awesome tribute video I just can't stop watching:

Now, someone slash him!

according to several of @stevendeknight's replies, Ilithyia is dead as only the dead can be. so I'm sure she's gone for good.

If I'm not completely mistaken (and maybe with the exception of a couple of extras), Crixus/Manu Bennet is now the only actor remaining from the original cast of the first season. o.O
Yeah, the fact that Crixus did seem to really try to hold back and give Naevia the time/space she needed earned him some brownie points with me, too. I wish they had more eps per season, they could've shown that healing process a bit better, but there was already so much tale to tell... and the extremely fast pacing is something I quite enjoy, to offset e.g. HIMYM. LOL

this series is completely nuts, I'm never quite sure why I'm even watching, but on some level it's absolutely amazing. It reminds me of a weird cross between a graphic novel and horror movie style in its bloodiest moments, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. Actually I'm not sure if I could take it if it were any more realistic. And the amount of planning that had to go into setting up the intrigues of Ilithyia, Lucretia and Ashur, how others would fit into that... it boggles my mind a little.

Who should Gannicus be slashed with? Spartacus, now that Mira is gone?

(This Means War is a small fandom? damn. I've kinda counted on that one. I haven't checked it out yet because I haven't seen the movie. What about Warrior? Please tell me people are all over the way Brendan becomes madly protective of Tommy at the end?)

Hmm, yes, "Spartacus" is quite special. I'm mainly watching it for the eye-candy and the fights, but the plots are really complex, and when they come together it's really awesome television.

Spartacus does seem like the obvious choice for a slash partner, but to be honest I'd rather see Gannicus stick to his slutty ways and make the rounds of the whole camp ;-) An Agron/Nasir sandwich with a Gannicus stuffing is what I'm currently working on ;-)

And yeah, "This Means War" didn't really take as a fandom :sigh: There are a few stories out there, but not nearly as many as I was hoping. "Warrior" is similar - a few stories here and there, but not really a formed fandom. I haven't seen an outright incest fic, but there's brotherly gen, and slash with Frank (Brendan's trainer), the soldier Tommy saved, and OMCs.

BTW, love your icon :-)

What's that then? Nagronnicus? :D

that's too bad about Warrior, really. but I can live with Frank/Tommy - I liked the MMA Jedi.

lol thanks. it was one of those inspired conversations during a car-ride I can't even recall properly anymore, but that particular demand for more sexy!times in fanfic stuck with me. it's a battle call :D

Replying a bit late because I was away on my holidays and had to wait *ages* to see the finale!!!
Can hardly believe they killed off nearly half the main cast, LOL, but it was *brilliant*. And I was so convinced either Agron or Nasir would be killed so I was so happy when that didn't happen! \o/
Absolutely bloody loved the whole series and cannot wait for more!
*happy dance with you*

Yep, I was quite relieved that they let Agron and Nasir live for a while yet. I have to say, this show is like Oz - as much as I want it to continue I'm scared as well, because I know my favourite characters will have to die at some point ;-)

The only weak point of the series so far for me is the new Spartacus. Too bad, because I liked the character when Andy played him, and he is supposed to be the hero of the show. But as long as Gannicus sticks around (and won't be recast) I will be watching!

It took me a while to get used to new!Spartacus, but in the end I quite liked him. I was pleasantly surprised to get lots of Gannicus, he's a sweetie, LOL!
So bring on a new season! And more Agron/Nasir, LOL!
