I have to admit that I’m awaiting Thor: The Dark World with as much apprehension as impatience because, let’s face it, a sequel is hardly ever as good as the original. Also, I don’t trust the new director to keep the things I loved most about Thor intact. Still, a few major spoilers for Thor 2 have appeared on the web recently, and some of them actually sound promising.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Fairly cryptic, eh? Now, for the spoilers:

First of all the filming locations indicate that some of the action will be happening in London (including big battle sequences), and I always love that. What I’m particularly looking forward to is "a POV shot filmed for Thor's mighty hammer, Mjolnir. [...] it'll be seen flying pass Londoners and around big landmarks." How cool is that?!

Other plot spoilers: "Thor becomes reunited with Jane who becomes possessed by a Dark Spirit, which is connected with the Dark Elves; a race the Asgardians have fallen out with many years beforehand [...] The Dark Elves attack Asgard, and they take a huge hit. So Thor has to rebuild Asgard by putting together an army to go and take the battle to the Dark Elves and defeat them. But the only way he can do this is – he needs to cross over to the Dark World, and the only person who has access to the dark side of Asgard is his old brother Loki, who at the beginning of the film is locked up in prison.

So what happens is Thor basically has to negotiate this truce with Loki, and he goes on this great trek with Jane, all three of them. They go to this far side of Asgard, which is being shot in Iceland, where they train and assemble an army to go and attack the Dark Elves’ world.”

"But the exclusive twist…is that one of the things that happens during the Asgardian attack is that Thor’s mother gets killed. So it becomes like a vengeance thing. And they were keeping very tight-lipped about what actually happens with Loki, you don’t know whether he redeems himself or he’s still the bad egg."

Poor Rene Russo, this after having most of her scenes cut from the first film...

In somewhat related news, the Iron Man 3 trailer is out, and I have to say it looks so generic I've lost any interest in seeing the film in cinema. I've never been a big Iron Man fan but I love Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, so I was looking forward to another Shane Black/RDJ team-up. The trailer makes the film look like a Batman rip-off rather than Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, though, so unless I hear Thor does a cameo I'm not interested.

Hello, Czeri!

I doubt you'll even remember me, it's been a hell of a long time, but this is Jen (used to be dustyirish2003 over on Bleeding Shamrock, etc.) and I was both surprised and delighted to run into your journal via a Thor meme.

Just had to poke my head in and wave ... and couldn't resist doing so on a post concerning two of my current passions: Thor and KKBB. LOL

Sincerely hope you are well & that things are going wonderfully with you and yours!

~ Jen

OMG! Hi! Of course I remember you! How have you been?

I've been great - I've finished my studies, relocated to the UK, and have been enjoying living close to where things are actually happening ever since :-) Like the filming of "Thor 2", for example (although I haven't yet tried visiting the set, I'm not that much of a stalker) ;-)

I've been fandom hopping quite a lot, mostly going for fairly obscure stuff. It's wonderful to re-connect with an old fandom friend via the Avengers! It's another great thing about being in a big fandom again, I guess :-) Not that KKBB isn't fun, too, but I'm not really fannish about it (oter than checking out the odd story on yuletide).

One thing I have to ask, what Thor meme? I haven't seen anything. Clearly I'm not in the right LJ communities...

LOL I replied to your comment earlier this morning, but LJ appears to have eaten it (I suspect due to my Harry Lockhartesque rambling tendencies) so I'll try to summarize. ; )

I was so happy to hear that you're doing well; it's indeed wonderful to see a familiar face! : )

Lucky you, there in the UK with Thor 2! I'd hope in the same position I wouldn't turn out to be a stalker either, but must admit it would be mighty tempting. ; ) I may well be imagining things, but isn't Adewale supposed to be in that somewhere (btw, lovelovelove your icon - god, doesn't that bring back memories!)?

I'm also quite the fandom hopper; am currently writing for Avengers, Thor and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but have been pretty much all over the place in the past few years.

As for where I ran across you, LOL, truth is that I'm not sure. All I know is that I was reading Thor/Loki at the time ... which probably helps not at all. Promise to let you know if I figure it out. ; )

In short, I was thrilled to come across you again and doubly thrilled to see that you friended me. Have done likewise and very much look forward to talking to you again soon! : )

Yes, Adewale is indeed playing in "Thor 2", one of the villains, apparently. I'm really curious about his character. I hope he'll be recognizable from underneath the make-up...

I love this icon too :-) It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to use it, though, so I'm going to milk this occasion for all it's worth ;-)
