I'm so going against the grain here, but... I didn't like the movie. I didn't hate it or anything, I just don't think it's particularly good.

For one thing, it's rushed so much that most of the time I felt like I was watching a summary rather than a movie proper. And yes, I do know that it's because the book's so ridiculously long, but still, a good movie shouldn't feel like it's just giving the audience the heads-up while all the goood stuff is going to be released on the DVD in the form of deleted scenes.

Secondly, I didn't like Dumbledore, or Mad-Eye Moody, or Cho, or Fleur, or Madame Maxine, or Rita Skeeter... It seems the good old times when even the characters that were cast completely against their book characterization were still appealing in their own right are gone :sigh:

And lastly, what the hell was happening to my favourite characters? Granted Draco was gorgeous, and so was Lucius, but I could only feast my eyes for about three minutes of screen-time they've amassed together in a three-bloody-hour-long movie! Throw in Snape and we have staggering five minutes of Slytherins in the entire GoF! Yes, I adore Lucius to bits, but a film in which he has as much screen-time as Draco is just wrong!

Oh, and another thing, one I fully anticipated but still feel like ranting about - Draco's dress robes. He was supposed to look like Neo in velvet! Not sport a white bow tie bigger than his head! Wardrobe people, read the books, will you?! Then again, thanks to Draco's smashing black coat and furry hat I suddenly no longer have the problem of not having a costume for tomorrow, so I guess it's not all bad ;-)

Which brings me to what I liked about the movie.

Malfoys, gorgeous. Yes, I know I've already said it, but I feel this particular matter cannot be stressed enough :melts:

Voldemort rocked, almost as much as the Dark Mark or Morsmorde.

And speaking of, the special effects were something else, weren't they? My favourite has to be apparating. Particularly in the scene with the Death Eaters in the cemetery, the way the air just sort of swirled and filled with black-robed figures was totally awesome.

Crouch Junior was suprisingly sexy.

The Weird Sisters looked amazing (for the entire 20 seconds they were on the screen :grr:).

Draco and Lucius were actually in the same frame at the World Quidditch Cup! And there were just the two of them! I'm on an OTP high! And then the line about the bet Draco had with Lucius, which he won, BTW? Was the screenwriter trying to plant my mind firmly in the gutter? ;-)

(Funnily enough, what with the enthusiastic use of the pimp cane that Jason indulged in, I can't shake the thought that Draco might actually want to claim the chance to smack Lucius around for a change. Hmm, there might be a story here...)

So anyway, the final verdict - as far as the overall quality is concerned, I'd rate this movie as equal to the Chamber of Secrets, but the massive amount of Malfoys in the latter makes GoF fall way below and land just in front of PS. PoA remains the best HP movie so far, and now that I've said it I guess no one will want to speak to me tomorrow :-)
