I went to see The Mechanic yesterday and I'm still slightly reeling with disbelief that I've seen what I've seen - it's an all out action film, with Jason Statham playing a kick-ass assassin and Ben Foster playing his kick-ass apprentice, all clearly marketed for the male audience, and yet it includes quotes like "Roofies? You want me to kill him or rape him?" and scenes of Ben Foster's character seducing his male mark and engaging in a petting session with him before killing him. I've actually heard audible gasps from the audience during that scene. It was glorious, like being transported to some alternate universe for two hours...
Where's the fic, people?! What, just because I like it it's going to end up being a tiny obscure fandom with audience of one?
Another film I've seen recently and loved was Henry's Crime. It appears anyone who's anyone in indie cinema is in it, and it's a great blend of a heist-movie and a romantic comedy. Really worth a watch, particularly for Chekhov fans ;-)
