all sorts of stuff
May. 1st, 2010 01:18 pm- The newest Supernatural ep was awesome. I love Crowley so much :-)
- There start to appear first reviews of Prince of Persia and apparently it's not quite as good as I hoped. Oh well, with lowered expectations I might end up enjoying myself anyway. And the main reason why I'll be watching is apparently one of the better things about the film: There are some really well choreographed chase sequences which involve acrobatic feats of free running (a discipline that never seems to lose its on-screen appeal). So there.
- Speaking of PoP, I've entered two competitions to win tickets to the premiere on 07. 05. but I don't really hold my breath. I might end up going just to be an onlooker though, because the seventh will be my day off work and I'm curious about the venue - instead of Leicester Square it's supposed to take place in some shopping centre in Shepherd's Bush.
- I've finished reading the Millenium trilogy by Stieg Larsson. I liked it well enough, but it's nothing to go crazy about. Lisbeth Salander wasn't nearly as cool a character as I was led to believe, she pissed me off more often than not with her sullen, rebellious teenager attitude. I really liked Erika Berger, though. And the feminist issues touched upon in the books were really really good. Also, I loved the rescue scene in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - it was a great 'Hell yeah!' moment when the petite Lisbeth ended up saving Mikael from rape, torture and death ;-) Otherwise Mikael was such a shameless Marty Stu that I couldn't help snickering when yet another woman he'd just met would fall for him. I'm curious to see the films now.
- I saw The Men who Stare and Goats recently and loved it. I heartily recommend it to anyone who needs a good laugh. Mind you, there are some pretty bittersweet moments too. Poor Mahmud...
- If you want something that's pure hilarity, How I Met your Mother's "The Three Day Rule" episode made me howl with laughter like a lunatic. Check out Barney's explanation of the origins of the three day rule for example:
"Jesus started the whole wait-three-days thing. He waited three days to come back to life. It was perfect. If he would have only waited one day, a lot of people wouldn't have even heard that he died. They'd be all, 'Hey, Jesus, what up'? And Jesus would probably be like, 'What up? I died yesterday'. And then they'd be all 'Uh, you look pretty alive to me, dude'. And then Jesus would have to explain how he was resurrected and how it was a miracle. And then, the dude would be like, 'Uh, okay, whatever you say, bro'."
"Wow, ancient dialogue sounds so stilted now."
Hee!
- I finally bought Tetsuo: The Iron Man. I remember watching it years ago in the sf club at my university and yes, it's just as nightmarish as I recalled. What I didn't remember was that it was unexpectedly hot at times. Between this and the surprisingly erotic moment in Hardware when the male protagonist was being attacked by the robot and kept moaning as if he was being molested rather than killed I'm beginning to wonder if I've developed some sort of human/robot fetish ;-)
Have a nice weekend everyone!
