Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] shabzilla!

Well, I registered to vote. It's going to be a pain in the arse, because I'll have to go to London to do it, but at least my vote will neutralise one of those right-wing nuts from the US that keep meddling in each election even though most of them haven't been to Poland in decades, nor are planning to.

If internet is to be believed, there's supposed to be a country-wide action to "hide your grandma's id on election day". I heartily approve of the idea, what with most grandmas spending the election morning in church and then voting on whomever the priest told them to. Hiding their ids should majorly reduce the PiS electorate, and thus remove the Kaczynski brothers from power before they manage to establish dictatorship :keeps fingers crossed:.

Which one of our right-wing nuts is meddling in your election this time?

It's the Polish minority in the US - for some reason they tend to be ultra-Catholic right-wing nutjobs who always vote for the most conservative party/candidate there is. Even though, as I've said, most of them never intend to so much as visit Poland, nevermind going back to live there.

That is true about Polish-Americans - they are usually blue-collar conservative types. I'm surprised they interfere with your elections, but maybe they still have family there. Or maybe they just want everyone to be as right-wing as they are.

(By the way, my father's family comes from a small town in Poland (I don't know which one), near Krakow).

I believe it's the latter. Since most moved to the States to escape communism, all they care about is that Polish government be as anti-communist as possible. Unfortunately the problem with such government is that it spends all its time organising communist hunts, leaving the economy to fend for itself.

It's cool about your family :-) Are they still alive?

I don't think there's anyone left in Poland, that I know of. They were Jews, and they left in the late 19th century. Once in the United States, my great grandfather married his cousin (it wasn't considered incest or unusual 100 years ago), and that's the beginning of my father's family line as far as I know.
