"The Hostage" bonus features
Jul. 3rd, 2008 12:11 amI got a new computer! With a Bluray drive! Whee!!!
And to check out the Bluray I bought "The Hostage", because my DVD edition is woefully special features-free. The Blueray version has the director's commentary, deleted scenes (including a couple with Mars), and a behind-the-scenes featurette which includes Ben talking about things like how supportive Bruce Willis was when Ben struggled with one scene, or how the fire in the final scenes was real, as were the Molotov's cocktails he was holding while walking through said fire.
The commentary was quite interesting, although sometimes difficult to understand due to the director's heavy French accent. For me the highlight was when the director revealed that in the scene when the girl and her brother locked themselves in the panic room and Mars shattered the one way mirror so he could see them, Ben really used his fist to hit the glass and break it the rest of the way off. Which obviously resulted in him cutting his hand to shreds. I swear, Ben would give Keanu Reeves a run for his money in the who's more insane contest. Especially since Ben punched the glass not once but twice during the scene :shakes head: It kinda makes me wonder whether it was his actual blood that Ben used to write on the window. The director started talking about the character right then, saying that Mars was using his blood, so it's hard to tell.
Oh, and having seen "The Hostage" in high definition I can definitely confirm that Mars does not wear the beads. So it's 2:3 so far - Darren and Russell the suffering artists vs. Jake, Glen and Mars, the psychos.
Now excuse me while I search for the best deals on "3:10 to Yuma" on Bluray...
