I've found this website dedicated to Home and Away that, among other things, contains the summary of each character's storylines. So of course I've read about Kim Hyde (played by Chris Hemsworth) and let me tell you, if you ever need a laugh you can't do better. I literally had tears streaming down my face at the sheer ridiculousness :-)

Here are some of the highlights:

In the three years he was on the show Kim had three kids with three different women. Granted that one was fake (well, the kid was real, someone else was the father), but still, impressive, right? I think the writers finally realised that at the rate he was going he was threatening to cause overpopulation in Australia, because he ended up contracting mumps, which turned him sterile. That naturally led to a storyline in which he and his wife attempted to adopt a baby only to have the birth mother change her mind and take the kid away.

He was getting married twice (two different women, I feel like I should specify this kind of stuff). The first time the wedding had to be called off due to weather and the bride's change of heart, the second time he was late because of hijinks, so he ended up charging to the church on a stolen horse.

Speaking of hijinks – the first time he proposed he stuck the ring into a tub of ice cream, which resulted in him having to dismantle half the kitchen when his bride-to-be got sick of the dessert and washed the ice-cream down the sink. A different set of hijinks led to him having to deliver his own baby when he and the mother got stranded in the bush.

He was in a plane crash, a helicopter crash, a car crash, and an explosion. After the helicopter crash he was lost in the bush for weeks before being rescued. He was also hit by a car once; suffered from depression; and overdosed on drugs, ending up in a coma for, like, two episodes.

He attracted at least two psychos – one was a woman he was dating who's turned out to be the Summer Bay stalker (a killer terrorising the town by assaulting various people and leaving bombs in public places). The other one was some guy that got infatuated with Kim and his wife and kidnapped her, so Kim had to rush to the rescue.

Ooh, also, he and his father spent most of the time hating each other and assaulting each other. Then it was revealed that Kim's father killed his mother because she had drowned Kim's brother and was attempting to drown Kim as well. Eventually his father got convicted of murdering the mayor.

Kim, on his part, has been at one point accused of assaulting his female customer (while he was working in a gym as a trainer), but those charges were made up and were dropped.

Now take a moment to appreciate the fact all this happened to him between the ages of 17 and 19 :-)

So, does he like ever wear a shirt? lol. Not that I'm complaining.

That is a very valid question! It doesn't say on the site, but I'd like to think not ;-)

Hahah! Awesome. I used to watch that soap about 20 years ago, LOL. Sounds like it hasn't changed :)

Heh, I guess it hasn't. I've never really watched soap operas, so while I did hear how ridiculous the plots in them are, I was still taken by surprise when I read the summary :-)

They seem oddly believable when you watch it every day, LOL!! I got hooked on Eastenders when I watched it before Mark Wakeling was in it (for one episode, LOL)... I was addicted for weeks!

Heh, you're right, it's all a matter of perspective - when you think about all this happening to one person over three years it's completely ridiculous. However, if you think about this happening over the course of 775 episodes, it suddenly seems like hardly anything was going on at all ;-)
