DVDs and blu rays, oh my!

As a rabid film collector I own several editions of quite a few films. And most of them are pretty much similar except for the features that made me buy the various editions in the first place (usually extra bonus material). However, my recent conversation with _backpages_ about the difference between the special features on the US and UK versions of B13 has made me research the matter further, and upon discovering that the French edition has "Un Monde Meilleur" and "Mukiai" (no interview with Stephane Vigroux, though, heh heh, losers) I bought it. So now I have the UK DVD, UK blu ray and French blu ray. And the weird thing is, they're all different. The main menus, the covers, and even the chapters vary. The French chapter placement, for example, is completely idiotic - they cut scenes in half, and don't have any chapters at all in the hour-long Making Of featurette. The main menu on the UK DVD displays an awesome loop of some of the best stunts from the film. I've been known to just sit and stare at the menu for minutes at a time, it's that good. The UK blu ray is far less cool as it has a black and white loop of random scenes, but it always starts with Leito taking off his tank top, splashing water on his face and looking in the mirror, which is nice :-) The French blu ray has a loop of completely useless scenes, which mostly seem to feature Taha and random extras. The graphics on all three menus are different as well, which I really don't get at all. Why would anyone go to the trouble of designing three different graphic schemes for the same film?! Or more, since heaven knows what the US menu, or the regular French DVD menu, or the French THX DVD menu look like...

And speaking of things I don't understand, in episode 16 of B13U filming diary Cyril seems to be giving a tutorial on how to jump into a car feet first through a window. If only I spoke French...

I just hope the US version of B13-U includes all the filming diaries, with subtitles. I will cry if we don't get behind-the-scenes stuff.

For such a badass, Cyril is the world's biggest dork. ♥ First he was bitching about having to sleep in the car, then that girly wave after he socked out the guy who told him to get back in the boot. Also, his instructions for jumping into the car window were not very helpful. Yeah, just don't go right or left and you'll be okay! WTF?

I'm sure the filming diaries will be included on the DVD. Or there will be a comprehensive making of including most of the stuff from them. Or both. All the recent French films I've seen have loads of behind the scenes features, I guess it's the way things are done. Too bad they haven't thought of including French subtitles, though.

Is that what Cyril's saying? ROTFALMAO! He really is very helpful, isn't he. Then again, what do I know, maybe that is all the instruction David and the stuntmen Cyril usually works with need...

Oh, I hope you're right. It's bad enough that we have to wait ages for foreign films to come out here, if they do at all.

Cyril is such a goof. In the Making Of from the first movie he claimed he was always quite serious on set until they wrapped filming, but it sure looks to me like he spends an awful lot of time being silly. Not that I mind!

Hee, he sure does! I think what he meant was filming being done for the day, or the filming of his scenes being done for the day, at which point he'd decompress by goofing around. And no, I don't mind it at all either :-)
