David's book
Mar. 7th, 2009 08:23 pmIf someone had told me six months ago that in half a year I will have read a book in French I would have laughed and laughed. Yet here I am desperately trying to cheer myself up after the total downer "Parkour" turned out to be.
It didn't start that way, was quite amazing for the most part, and occasionally hilarious, but damn, way to end on a low note. Not only did he pack all the deaths in the family into the last chapter (which in itself would have been fine, I was surprised to learn his father shot himself, and within fifteen hours of his grandfather dying, but that was ten years ago. And I already knew that the mysterious third brother, Daniel as it turns out, overdosed, even if the fact he went to prison for armed robbery was new); but then he followed all that by ruminating on the sad state of the world, only to move on to announcing he's quitting parkour. I mean WTF?!
I get going through middle-age crisis and all, but surely just the smoking and the drinking that as he says he's recently taken up should suffice? Parkour without David Belle? NOT ON!!
