Stormbreaker!
Encouraged by
annephoenix and
quiet_lucidity I went to see The Stormbreaker today and I've gotta say they were right - it was brilliant!!! Sure that the plot was pretty stupid, bordering on ridiculous, but I still had far more fun while watching than I remember having in a long time. It's definitely better than PotC: DMC.
First of all Alex Pettyfer reminded me of Draco - tall, blond, slender, and his eyes looked grey in most close-ups (dark grey, true, but that's a minor detail). His jaw was a bit too wide, but the shape of his face and nose was almost perfect. Then there are the plot similarities - he joins a secret organisation that everyone thinks he's too young to join in order to avenge his father-figure and protect his mother-figure? And all those bike chasing scenes, can you say Draco, his broomstick, and Muggle helicopters? ;-)
Gregorovich was so much like Krycek that I thought Daniel Lewis even looked similar to Nick Lea (I admit I'm not sure how that's possible, but he did!) The last scene between him and Alex was just unbelievable. I actually squealed with delight at all the slash - "You don't belong in my world. Forget about me, Alex." "I'll never forget you." What was the writer thinking?!
With my mind planted firmly in the gutter I got far too much enjoyment out of the Wolf/Cub scenes as well - I know it's a long shot, but hey, there's not much Draco/Blaise around, so I get my kicks wherever I can ;-)
In addition to the fannish points of interest, Bill Nighy, Stephen Fry and Jimmy Carr all cracked me up. Ewan McGregor was fun, and I'm sure his character had a long and passionate history with Gregorovich...
They really need to make more Alex Rider films.

Hmm, he really should guest star in the HP series. Preferably as Scrimgeur. And come to think of it, so should Stephen Fry. I can't think of a part for him, though :-(

As for Gregorovich -- I am glad I'm not insane!! I squeaked: "Krycek!" several times. The way he standd when he shoots that pitchfork driver, e.g., was VERY "Red & Black" (re: when he runs into Marita in Russia) ... and then his half smile at the end, that twitch of the lips that also made his nose crease a little: DEFINITELY a strong similarity to Nick Lea.
I'm also in love with bitch!lady for taking photos of Alex's almost death - snuff movie much?. That made me giggle like a child. Actually, many things made me laugh. It was great fun.

Yeah, Daniel Lewis totally did the nose crease! It was like watching some alternate universe X Files at times ;-)
I'm not a big fan of the bitch-lady myself. I thought she was too over-the-top even for that movie. But yeah, the pictures were disturbingly kinky ;-)
